TURKEY

Known as the cradle of civilisation Turkey was first inhabited some time prior to 9000BC. It is bordered by three major seas – The Black Sea, The Aegean and The Mediterranean. This was the original destination of the famed Orient Express train line and is fabled to be the place where Noah's ark landed at Mount Agri in the East. Two of the seven wonders of the World are here, The Temple of Artemis and the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus and it is said to have provided the water for the Garden of Eden from its two rivers, The Euphrates and Tigris.

Turkey also had the worlds first female Supreme Court Judge, and gave the women the right to vote in 1945 and introduced tulips to Holland! The capital is Ankara and the incredible city of Istanbul has the oldest covered market in the world with over 3,500 shops and 25,000 workers.

Along Turkey's Mediterranean and Aegean coastline there is a Mediterranean climate, which is characterised by long, hot summers and mild though rainy winters. Istanbul, which is in the Marmara region, has temperatures in average 73 'F for summer and 32 'F in winter. In the Central Anatolian, which includes Cappadocia and Ankara, a continental climate prevails with hot and dry summers.
