KEMER - ANTALYA

Welcome to Kemer, one of the most beautiful holiday resorts in Turkey just 35km to the west of Antalya. This is an area of countless remains of antiquity and natural beauty quietly nestling between the pine clad Tauros mountains and the azure blue sea. During the last 15 years, Kemer has seen a boom and is now a bustling cosmopolitan holiday resort.

Kemer's location makes it a haven for swimming, sunbathing and generally relaxing. Based around two beaches and with an exceptionally dramatic backdrop of pine-clad mountains, this elegant beach resort has everything at hand for a perfect holiday. The last 15 years has seen a great deal of development of the area which has been largely sympathetic and buildings are painted in pastel colours giving a warm and colourful feel. Many shopping areas are pedestrianised and the resort centre has the wide choice of bars and restaurants. The Marina is the place to sip a cool cocktail and admire the yachts moored there. You will also find a small beach to the south backed by a park area with cafes and a water park. Great for kids and adults alike. To the north of town there is a much longer beach with a paved promenade running along its length. Kemer is a holiday resort with lots of facilities to suit all tastes.

Take a short break from the beach and explore Yoruk Parki, which is a small park between the marina and the beach where you can see how people lived in Turkey hundreds of years ago. Or you can relax under the pine trees and try traditional Turkish food such as Gozleme (a type of dough filled with meat and cheese). A little further are the ruins at Phaselis which is built on a very small peninsula, with two small coves on each side provide the chance to sightsee and sunbathe at the same time.

After passing Phaselis on the Kemer to Kumluca road you will see a sign for Çirali and Olympos. Çirali is the name of the small village near the ancient ruins of the port city of Olympos, which founded in the 2nd century BC was abondoned in the 6th century A.D. The myth of Bellerophontes slaying the Chimera is said to have taken place here. An hours walk up a steep path will bring you to the natural phenomenon of the Chimera. Dubbed the “burning mountain” by locals the flames you see escaping the ground are the result of natural gas emissions from beneath the earth’s crust.
