DALYAN - TURKEY

The word
“Dalyan” actually means fishing weir; there is an
active fish farm here and fish farming and trading
have existed since ancient times. Dalyan offers many
varieties of fish for you to enjoy. Some are farmed
and others are caught fresh from the sea or lake.
Ecologically Dalyan is considered to be in the top ten destinations in the World and is an ideal holiday resort for nature lovers as it has a mystical and attractive atmosphere. Dalyan has become famous for many things; the ancient City of Kaunos with the Lycian rock tombs and amphitheatre, the mud baths, fresh clear waters of Koycegiz lake (the 7th largest lake in Turkey) and of course the slow pace of life.
However, probably the
most famous and beautiful of all Dalyan landmarks is
Turtle Beach (Iztuzu). This beautiful 5km stretch of
golden sands is not only a haven for sun worshippers
but also the nesting ground of the Caretta caretta
or loggerhead turtle. The sea is excellent for
swimming with shallow waters for at least 50 metres
from the shore so is very safe for adults and
children alike. The entire area is classified as a
nature reserve and site of special scientific
interest. Access to the beach is via Dolmus
(minibus), riverboat, bike or car.
In the evening, why
not try one of the many welcoming, excellent
riverside restaurants and sample the delicious
seafood on offer whilst looking at the rock tombs
that are magnificently lit up at night. Another must
on your itinerary would be to visit the equally
famous mud baths and thermal springs - great fun for
young and old - with the possibility of not only
looking younger but feeling completely rejuvenated
as well.
There are great tours
to enjoy here including a women only trip to a
traditional Turkish Bath.
