Cairns & The Great Barrier Reef - Australia

Located on the Great Barrier Reef and surrounded by the rainforests of Tropical North Queensland, Cairns is one of Australia’s largest tourism hubs and a must visit holiday destination. A modern city internationally recognised for its combination of world-class attractions, superb natural features and friendly hospitality as well as a place to relax and enjoy the best of what nature has to offer.

High on this list has to be the Great Barrier Reef – the world’s greatest reef system stretching for over 1000 miles along the Queensland coast. Its glamour is unending; a wonder beneath the cobalt sea that draws you irresistibly to quiet lagoons, palm-fringed beaches and faraway islands within the temperate waters of the Australian tropics.

Exploring the reef is both exhilarating and easy. You can snorkel or scuba dive with equipment provided and a trained crew on hand to assist, or non-swimmers you can view the reef from the comfort of a small boat or even a semi-submersible or underwater observatory? You can even explore from the air and it’s possible to capture a birds-eye view of the magnificent reefs from scenic flights in both fixed wing craft and helicopters.

But Cairns is much more than a Gateway to the Reef. Being deep in the tropics this is an opportunity to explore the outback of Australia’s great frontier-land or the lush tropical rainforests that are never seen in Europe. Its also a place to chill and relax in resorts which cater specifically for the gay and lesbian traveller.

It would be a shame to travel all the way to Australia and not see more than Cairns and the Reef, beautiful as they are. We therefore suggest Cairns as part of a tailor made holiday rather than a destination in its own right. It is a great place to chill out after the cities and sightseeing before heading home and we are pleased to create your own itinerary to suit. Cairns enjoys a tropical climate with December until March being over 30C and with many hot rainy days. April through November enjoys temperatures up to 27C with few rainy days.
